About Me

Welcome to BMore Balanced!

My 27th Birthday
I am a 28 year old student, girlfriend, daughter, granddaughter, sister, pup mommy, employee, and friend trying to manage being all of these things while also trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle... and my sanity. I am starting this blog as a medium to share my thoughts and experiences in balancing my hectic life as well as to share my love for food, cooking, nutrition, and overall wellness. My goal is to post recipes, photos, tips,  experiences, and stories about wherever life takes me. I hope you enjoy!

A little history:

Although I call myself a Charm City girl, I actually grew up in Hagerstown, MD. South Hagerstown to be exact. Go Rebels! I attended college at Towson University with a bachelor's degree in Psychology and Sport Studies. The goal after college was to attend grad school but I decided to take a "little" break and got a job at a nearby psychiatric hospital. There I developed a passion for helping others and learning about human behavior. I was able to see first hand how nutrition and exercise affected a person's mood and overall state of mind and yearned to learn more about how one related to the other. I loved both of the Nutrition classes that I took at Towson and pondered the idea of going back to school to be an RD, but a girl's gotta pay the bills.

I decided to take a better paying position with another company but it was largely commission driven and required me to work long hours or even take my work home with me. During this time I started to pack on some lbs. due to ordering out for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, after work happy hours, office potlucks and birthdays and a hectic schedule which didn't allow much time for working out or grocery shopping. I felt as if I was neglecting my family, friends, Rae (my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel), and even my health. Even though I loved my job I still heard this voice calling from within to do something more.

Rae as a puppy

After a long and hard debate I made a life changing decision to quit my job to pursue my dream of becoming a registered dietitian and I couldn't be happier with my choice. It was tough and I know that I have a long road ahead of me but I am confident that it will all be worth it. I am currently working full time in a more flexible position and am taking prerequisite science courses at a local community college in the evenings. I plan to apply for Dietetic/Nutrition programs once the requirements have been fulfilled.

At my highest weight
After months of reading other healthy living blogs written by people with very similar stories to mine I was inspired to start a blog of my own. Although it's a place for me to journal my food and keep me accountable to my weight loss and fitness goals my hope is that it will turn into something more exciting and inspiring. I use cooking as therapy and have a library of cookbooks that is growing by the day and I look forward to sharing my interpretation of the recipes that I try. I believe in real, whole foods, preferrably ones that are local and in season but I also enjoy the occasional treat. Everything in moderation right? Life is crazy but balance is possible if you make good decisions and learn from the mistakes. This blog is about my journey for finding balance in my world and sharing my experiences with all who care to listen (or read).

Cheers!
